It is important that a translation conveys the right message to the recipient. Languages have many small nuances, which can end up making a significant difference.

It is above all important to identify the recipient. Do you know him or her personally? Do you want to sell something or enter into contract? This is vital for the manner in which you address a person – it is further good to have in mind that countries differ culturally and in the tone – also the written tone.

In Denmark, we often use humour and irony when communicating with others – even with strangers, but that would in most other countries be a huge mistake.

You will quickly be considered rude when using humour and your intensions may be completely misunderstood. Do you use a formal or casual tone; do you get straight to the point or write a long introduction?

It is therefore further important to take a “cultural” approach when translating a text into another language.
